Mother's Day Throwback

Hi everyone! Mother's Day was a few weekends ago and I had to do something special for my mom. She's always been there to guide me with love and I'm so blessed to have her in my life.

This year I actually planned ahead an made reservations for one of her favorite restaurants (Bonefish Grill). After a satisfying meal, my dad and I took her to the beach to enjoy some Vitamin D. Overall, I think Mother's Day was a success.

Love you Mom!

"Good Listener" Luke 18:14 NLT

14."I tell you, this sinner, not the Pharisee, returned home justified before God. For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted."

It's easy for us to compare ourselves to others and point out their flaws. At times we can boast a lot about ourselves without noticing. It's important to genuinely listen to what others have to say without passing judgement. A boastful attitude isn't the best way to spread God's love or get closer to Him. In fact, it's counterproductive for the kingdom. Let's remember to be, "quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to become angry".(James 1:19)

Starstruck

Hi everyone! I'm happy to say that this spring semester is over. This has been my least favorite semester yet. However, I pushed through it. Now that I'm on summer break, I can dedicate more time to posting and enhancing my blog.

To start off my break, I had the chance to attend a Creme of Nature event. A few natural hair YouTubers came to share some tips about natural hair care. It was so exciting to meet some of my favorite beauties outside of my computer screen. Everyone was so nice and had lots of tips to share.

What I learned

1. Deep Conditioning: Whether you are transitioning or completely natural, you can never go wrong with added moisture. It's most effective when using heat so that the moisture can penetrate the scalp cuticles. Conditioning can really make a difference in the manageability of your curls.

2. Oils: There are a range of oils to choose from: coconut oil (love), argan oil, black castor oil and a bunch more. Oil is great for adding extra shine and moisture to your hair, while promoting growth.

3. Styles: The choice is all up to you in deciding what's best for your hair. Test the waters and find which style fits your lifestyle. Protective styling such as wigs, twists, or just simple dutch braids are good options to protect the curls. Everything takes time and patience. The desired results may not be perfect but make it work and keep practicing. I've learned to stick with what works, and for me that's bantu knots.

My goodie bag included an array of samples for me to test out. It also had a box of hair dye. I haven't colored my hair in about three years, so a little change is long overdue. I've always loved the look of deep red (well blended) highlights. I haven't decided what to do yet but it will happen eventually.

I'm most excited to try the edge control because I haven't found "the one". Let's see if it will make the cut.

"Endurance" James 1:2-4 NLT

2."Dear Brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy.3 For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow 4. So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing."

This spring semester, I was reminded that I can't do everything on my own. Life can bring about a lot of stress, especially finals week. We must remember there's always someone that will be in our corner to comfort us. God wants us to come to Him with our cares. Stress and problems are a test of our faith in believing that God can handle any situation we face. Faith is the fuel to push through and endure the obstacles to reach a sweet victory.
