OOTD Family Style

Welcome back! We are getting closer and closer to fall so I'm trying to wear all the bright colors I can. This past labor day weekend I spent some quality time with my family and opted for a dressy casual look.Sometimes you just feel like channeling your inner diva. Two of my cousins were looking oh so fashionable as well, so I had to share their style. Keep scrolling and check out the details.

Pretty In Pink

To keep the look more causal I paired this peplum top with some denim jeans. I would have preferred white jeans even more, but I'm still on a quest for the right pair. For extra glitz I added some sparkly flats. You can also add a slim belt like the one below to cinch the waist.

Cami- Burlington Coat Factory
Peplum Top- Burlington Coat Factory
Jeans- Old Navy
Flats-Ross
Belt-from another outfit (similar one at Forever 21)

Military Street Style
Chris choose an edgier look this weekend with army pants and a black snap-back. This look is great for a concert, cook-out, or casual day out. The weather is still humid,so a tank was the best option.

Tank-Thrifted
Pants- H&M
Shoes- Polo from Journey's
Hat- H&M
Transitional Lenses- Ray-Bans

Light and Whimsical

Last but certainly not least, Courtney was fun and airy in this white high-low dress. Jackets are always a great way to add layers to your outfit. If you love height like me, wedges would go well with this look too.

"Strength" Isaiah 40:29

"He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak."(NIV)

Interpretation
Do you ever feel overwhelmed and in over your head? I definitely have.We often forget that there's someone right there to help us along the way. Who? God of course. He is our biggest supporter and will never let us down. Have confidence in Him and yourself. Whenever we feel weak, scared, or discouraged, all we have to do is pray to him in faith and let Him take control.

Summer Favorites

Welcome back to my blog. Since summer is coming to a close, I wanted to post my favorites of the season. I'm actually happy that summer is ending because fall and winter are my favorite seasons, plus my clothes seem edgier. Continue reading and maybe you'll like one of my favorites as well.

 FASHION
This outfit is my ultimate go to for the summer because it's so comfortable and airy. Summer dresses are so easy to wear casually with sandals for a shopping trip or jazz up with heels for a semi-causal wedding. The pastel colors along with the pattern help the dress stand out. I also love to pair my jean jacket with it just for some added dimension.

Denim Jacket: Dillard's
Floral Dress: Belk's
Platform Wedges: Nine West

My next fashion item is this black cross shoulder. I wore this just about everyday because it always went with my outfits. My favorite part of this bag is the studded details on the bottom that adds an extra element to any look. I tried so much over the summer to carry less items in my purse and this bag was really helpful. Its spacious enough to carry everything you need, yet small enough so you can't fit your whole life in it.

BEAUTY

The first item in the beauty category is perfume. I started running low on my other perfume so I decided to try a small bottle of the Mary Kay's Simply Cotton. It has a very fresh clean scent (I guess that's why it's called simply cotton). I will say that it doesn't last throughout the whole day but if you prefer light scents this is a good option. This perfume is overall a great buy.

Its safe to say that I am no makeup expert or guru, but I do a well enough job not to look ridiculous when I step out of the house. I've tried out some different things and the following items are my current favorites. I recently got a sample sized Buxom mascara from Sephora and it lengthens my lashes really well without clumping them up. The retail price is $19, so I'm more than likely going back to Maybeline when I run out. The next item is the Sephora eye shadow in the shade "milestone #17"(used with the small eye shadow brush). I really like this shade because its neutral but it adds extra shimmer to my face when I'm feeling fancy. The last item is the black dip brush liquid eyeliner. I'm starting to master the winged eyeliner and this is great because the color shows up really well without fading.

Small eye shadow brush: Sephora
Liquid eye liner: Target

I've been exploring to see what products work best for my hair in its natural state. My hair seems to respond best with these three items. The Shea Moisture product has a really thick consistency so a little goes a long when your using it. It works best for me when my hair is wet and it adds plenty of moisture (hence the name) while helping to detangle. The Aunt Jackie's defining custard lives up to the name. It always gets my hair super defined and the lavender smell is amazing. The last thing I use is argan oil because it gives my hair extra shine and moisturizes my scalp. Most oils (coconut oil, jojoba oil, olive oil etc.) do the same thing. I love the agran oil best and I use a little everyday to refresh my hair. I use all of these products after I've washed my hair and add more styling product every couple days (you don't want product build up,trust me).

Shea Moisture Curl enhancing smoothie: Wal-mart
Argan Oil: Local beauty supply store
Aunt Jackie's Curl La La: Local beauty supply store

The first nail polish doesn't really say summer, but I love the shimmery iridescent color it gives off. The second polish is a great pastel blue that matches every outfit (in my opinion) because the color is so light. Lastly, this last polish works as a base and top coat for your nails. My nail polish never last longer than a week, but this helps keep them shiny.

Love Charlotte: Charlotte Russe
Sally Hansen "Breezy Blue #481": Target
Sally Hansen Ultimate Shield: Target

SNACKS
I'm literally eating this combination as I'm typing. Healthy eating is not something I do all day everyday, but I do strive to eat healthy meals. This little snack is a step in the right direction. Yogurt has always been a favorite of mine and I recently tried it with granola (life changing). I stumbled across this brand of yogurt because someone decided to buy all of the Chobani yogurt; and I'm glad they did or I never would have tried honey vanilla yogurt. Its really creamy and great when I want something a little sweet.

Bear Naked: Wal-mart
Greek Gods Greek Yogurt: Wal-mart

MUSIC

My final favorite of the summer is the album Mali Is by Mali Music. I'm just going to be honest and tell you that I'm slightly obsessed with this album (I listen to it almost everyday). I first discovered Mali a few years back at a concert and I didn't even like him. What was I thinking? After listening to the songs a few times, I was hooked. I patiently (sort of) waited for his second album to release earlier in the summer. The wait was worth the while because his lyrics are so in depth, inspiring, encouraging, and poetic all in one.

"Love" 1 John 4:7-8 & James 3:5

7"Dear friends, let us love one, another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God.8 Whoever does not love, does not know God, because God is love."
5"Likewise, the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts.Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark." (NIV)

Interpretation
This past Saturday my grandmother talked about the subject of love. Sometimes we don't realize how much words can hurt a person. Its a lot easier to say you love God more than it is to say you love a person that you don't care for.Someone can seem alright on the outside but you never really know what they nay go through within. Therefore we should refrain from judgement towards others. Consider someone's feelings before blurting a comment or use a nicer tone and maybe the response will be more positive. As Christians its important to remember that friendliness is always more warming. Its not our place to judge or condemn a person because our job is to draw others with love and let God handle the rest.

Hey Mickey!

Welcome back everyone and I hope your having a great day! Fall semester begins Monday, so earlier this week I spent my lasts few days of freedom at the "happiest place on earth" in Orlando. For some reason I thought it would be a good idea to go on the hottest day on earth (108 degrees). It was obviously hot for Mickey too because I didn't see him anywhere (probably enjoying air conditioning). Aside from that snag, it was a great mini vacation.

Since my trip was short, I packed light. Correction, I packed light compared to how much I usually pack. Its really something I'm working on but I love to have options (indecisive). The most important thing to remember for packing,as far as clothing,is comfort. Especially during the summer, light and airy pieces are the way to go. I mainly stuck with shorts and wore pajama pants on the first day because I wanted something effortless.

DAY 1: Relaxed

I love wearing prints so I was gravitated towards this pants although,I wish there were pockets. When wearings prints, solid colors look best with them. Accessories in my opinion should be minimal because the print is the focal point.

Top:Cotton On
Pajama Pants: Wet Seal
Sandals: Jessica Simpson (Macy's)
Cross body:Steve Madden (Ross)
Necklace:Guess Outlet Store
Aviators: Gifted (Thanks Courtney!)

DAY 2: Disney Animal Kingdom

When your going to an amusement park, its a good idea to wear the hair up (it'll definitely get frizzy). You can always accessorize with a headband or hat. I wore the same pieces of jewelry from the first day because it matched both outfits (less work), and I don't like traveling with a bunch of jewelry. In addition, I went back to the 90's and choose these jean overalls. I'd been looking everywhere for a pair at a decent length and price. You can easily wear a bandeau, tank top, or crop top under overalls, but I prefer a simple t-shirt.

T-Shirt:Levi's Outlet Store
Overalls: Wet Seals
Sneakers: Coach (DSW)
Headband: Urban Outfitters

DAY 3:Shopping

We couldn't leave Orlando without a "quick" peek in the outlet stores.I choose something simple again and jazzed it up with gold accessories. Sandals are my favorite item to add to an outfit and I wear this pair all the time. I just really love the details and they're like a nicer version of Birkenstocks (no offense to anyone).Small bags are also a must because you don't want to carry around a big purse with unnecessary junk(guilty).

Top:Papaya
Shorts:Old Navy
Crossbody:Ross
Sandals:Jessica Simpson (Dillard's)
Midi Rings: H&M

"The Right Path" 1 John 2:15-16

15"Do not love the world or anything in the world, love for the Father is not in them.16"For everything in the world-the lust of flesh, the lust of eyes, and the pride of life-comes not from the Father but from the world."(NIV)

Interpretation
The world offers many things that can be appealing but, that doesn't always mean  it's good for you. It's important to remain true to yourself and avoid being easily swayed , especially in college, by something or someone that doesn't align with your path (goals, values, etc). In addition, material things are not always bad. When you focus on them too much, however, it takes over your life. For example, like any other young adult,I use my phone a lot. When I feel myself getting too drawn, I take a break and talk with someone in person, read, get organized, or just focus on God.Ultimately we all should strive to be ourselves without negative influences and limit concentration on the materials. When we focus on them, we draw attention away from God;Who just wants to spend some undivided time with us.

The "Royal" Wedding

First off, a special thank you to everyone who made time to check out my new blog. I'm very excited about this endeavor and I'm optimistic about where it will take me.I decided to step out on faith and I hope someone can draw inspiration from my passion;I digress (habit).

From the title of this post you can already guess where I went this past weekend. Weddings are always exciting to me because its an excuse for me to be fancy and I'm not ashamed to say I watch all of those bridal shows regularly (especially Four Weddings). So, when a relative asked me to be a hostess for her wedding I nonchalantly said, "sure" but I was obviously flattered.

The main color for the wedding was royal blue but, there was absolutely nothing royal or blue in my closet. Of course this was the perfect excuse to go shopping because I "needed" a dress, and to my surprise it was a lot harder to find a royal blue dress than I thought. About five stores later I found the perfect dress and it was on sale (my favorite word). God had this dress waiting just for me I'm sure of it.

Below you will find more photos, snapshots with some family(including the bride),and an encouraging scripture.

Outfit Details:
Dress: Dillard's
Shoes: Charles Jourdan purchased from (DSW)
Clutch: Burlington Coat Factory
Earrings: JCPenny

"Launch Out" Luke 5:4-6
4."When he had finished speaking,he said to Simon,"Put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch.5 Simon answered,'Master, we've worked hard all night and haven't caught anything. But because you say so,I will let down the nets.'6 When they had done so,they caught such a large number of fish that their nets began to break."(NIV)

Interpretation
My pastor recently spoke in reference to this scripture and he spoke on the subject of faith. Simon and these other fishermen were not novice at their job, but they were professionals and had no success on that particular occasion. Simon had toiled all day but launched the net because Jesus instructed him to and he had faith in God. The main point is,don't feel frustrated because there is no success in sight. Your situation is only for a season and when you continue to be obedient to God,you will prosper. The greater your faith is in Him, the greater your outcome will be.Remember that its okay to want more in life.Once you get past the rough patch, you will have a greater appreciation for where you are.
