Denim x Denim

Happy Sunday! I hope everyone reading is having a great day. Sadly, my computer and I are going through a rough patch, so I haven't been posting consistently. Hopefully by the end of the summer I can buy a new laptop.

Aside from that, this past weekend was Father's Day. My dad isn't too keen about social media or being on the internet. However, I love him so much I just had to share a little throwback photo. I find it so much harder to shop for my dad because he always says,"whatever you guys get me is fine."After brainstorming, my mom and I decided to buy him new cologne. We took him out to eat and gave him extra especial attention (he never turns that down). It was a successful father's day overall and I'm thankful for a caring father.

I'm currently loving the denim on denim trend and decided to go for a dark wash skirt paired with a Jean chambray shirt.

"Mind your tongue"
Matthew 15:11,18 NLT

11 "What goes into someone's mouth does not defile them, but what comes out of their mouth, that is what defiles them.18 But the things come out of a person's mouth come from the heart, and these defile them."

Another word for defile is to spoil or tarnish. We all try to do the right thing and live a "Godly" lifestyle, but sometimes we tend to forget how we treat people during that process. If you see someone going through a struggle, pray for them don't judge them. God is the only one with the right to judge others. What comes from your mouth comes directly from your heart and inner thoughts. God is far more interested in our hearts than what we put on the outside. It's our duty to love one another and pray for those in need.

Mother's Day Throwback

Hi everyone! Mother's Day was a few weekends ago and I had to do something special for my mom. She's always been there to guide me with love and I'm so blessed to have her in my life.

This year I actually planned ahead an made reservations for one of her favorite restaurants (Bonefish Grill). After a satisfying meal, my dad and I took her to the beach to enjoy some Vitamin D. Overall, I think Mother's Day was a success.

Love you Mom!

"Good Listener" Luke 18:14 NLT

14."I tell you, this sinner, not the Pharisee, returned home justified before God. For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted."

It's easy for us to compare ourselves to others and point out their flaws. At times we can boast a lot about ourselves without noticing. It's important to genuinely listen to what others have to say without passing judgement. A boastful attitude isn't the best way to spread God's love or get closer to Him. In fact, it's counterproductive for the kingdom. Let's remember to be, "quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to become angry".(James 1:19)

Starstruck

Hi everyone! I'm happy to say that this spring semester is over. This has been my least favorite semester yet. However, I pushed through it. Now that I'm on summer break, I can dedicate more time to posting and enhancing my blog.

To start off my break, I had the chance to attend a Creme of Nature event. A few natural hair YouTubers came to share some tips about natural hair care. It was so exciting to meet some of my favorite beauties outside of my computer screen. Everyone was so nice and had lots of tips to share.

What I learned

1. Deep Conditioning: Whether you are transitioning or completely natural, you can never go wrong with added moisture. It's most effective when using heat so that the moisture can penetrate the scalp cuticles. Conditioning can really make a difference in the manageability of your curls.

2. Oils: There are a range of oils to choose from: coconut oil (love), argan oil, black castor oil and a bunch more. Oil is great for adding extra shine and moisture to your hair, while promoting growth.

3. Styles: The choice is all up to you in deciding what's best for your hair. Test the waters and find which style fits your lifestyle. Protective styling such as wigs, twists, or just simple dutch braids are good options to protect the curls. Everything takes time and patience. The desired results may not be perfect but make it work and keep practicing. I've learned to stick with what works, and for me that's bantu knots.

My goodie bag included an array of samples for me to test out. It also had a box of hair dye. I haven't colored my hair in about three years, so a little change is long overdue. I've always loved the look of deep red (well blended) highlights. I haven't decided what to do yet but it will happen eventually.

I'm most excited to try the edge control because I haven't found "the one". Let's see if it will make the cut.

"Endurance" James 1:2-4 NLT

2."Dear Brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy.3 For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow 4. So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing."

This spring semester, I was reminded that I can't do everything on my own. Life can bring about a lot of stress, especially finals week. We must remember there's always someone that will be in our corner to comfort us. God wants us to come to Him with our cares. Stress and problems are a test of our faith in believing that God can handle any situation we face. Faith is the fuel to push through and endure the obstacles to reach a sweet victory.

Weekend Wedding

Hi everyone! Last weekend I attended a beautiful wedding with my mom. The weather was perfect and the bride was gorgeous.

I purchased this shift dress a few days prior on sale and figured it was perfect for the occasion. An x-small would have been perfect but I'm not super picky when there's a sale going on. A simple belt cinched in some bagginess. Shift dresses are great for formal and semi-casual events. My favorite part about this particular dress is the lace detailing at the top and floral pattern; a perfect transition to spring.

"Prove It" Psalm 103:1-2 KJV

1."Bless the Lord, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name. 2. Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits"

The Lord has done some many wonderful things for us, so why not thank Him? He appreciates our verbal gratitude and praises. When that moment is all said and done, we can't forget to show Him our gratitude. Usually if a person does something nice for us, we thank them but probably forget the moment and move on. Words are nice but actions speak louder. Let's put our thanks to action. When God blesses you, pay it forward and be a blessing to someone else. Our purpose is to serve Him and share His love. Don't you want share that feeling of love and gratitude?

Birthday OOTD

Hi everyone. I was blessed to celebrate another birthday this week, the big 2-0. Some people think 21 is a major milestone, but I think 20 is pretty awesome too. Unfortunately I had accounting class on my birthday, but I was able to spend quality to with my family and get a manicure (must-have).

The birthday weather was great, so I decided to bring out the leather pants. For some extra fierceness, I added my cheetah print top and tucked in the side to show the zipper detailing on the pants.

"Sincere Prayer" Matthew 6: 6,8 NLT

6." 'But when you pray, go away by yourself, the shut the door behind you, and pray to your Father in private. Then your Father, who sees everything, will reward you. 8. ...for your father knows exactly what you need even before you ask him!' ".

We all have daily routines that we stick to, and prayer should be one of them. However, routines can become robotic and we don't want our prayers to be that way.Prayers should come from the heart with sincerity and honesty. After all He knows what we're thinking so there's no point in hiding. Often times life can get hectic (I can testify to that). Let's try to simplify our surroundings when we pray to weed out distractions. It's a time for one on one interaction with God.
